Starbucks

A couple of weeks ago (Friday, April 1st), our group visited Starbucks. In particular, we discussed how Starbucks relates to supply chain management, as well as what various aspects of supply chains they use. We also talked to the store manager, Robin. She said that the most important thing about Starbucks was the atmosphere, which makes sense if you think about it. Have you ever been in a Starbucks that feels different from any other Starbucks? They're all relatively consistent in terms of atmosphere. Robin also discussed the importance of various jobs and responsibilities for employees. This helps make the process run smoothly and more efficiently.

Starbucks's supply chain begins in Africa and Australia, where the coffee beans are grown and eventually make their way into the coffee that is sold in stores.

I thought that this opportunity to speak to the manager of Starbucks was interesting because it was a nice way to ease us into the ideas of supply chains and supply chain management; taking a relatively familiar company and using it as an example.
